             About Us

A  community of makers.

Throughout the year we gather together and talk about our creative journey, share our current projects and support each other as we learn new things, create beautiful things and gather the best tools for our projects.  You will find all ages and all types of people at every skill level.  Everyone is welcomed.

We meet on the universal ground of creativity.

At our gatherings we have incredible guest speakers, trunk shows, opportunities to purchase notions and needles plus we have break out sessions led by experienced professionals. We have our signature event, The Gathering, which happens several times a year, we also host regular pop-ups for makers to hang out, and we host ZOOM gatherings.

Our Story

Kim was the owner of The Makery, a community couch where knitters, crocheters, applique lovers, and embroiderers would gather with their projects and hang out while perusing carefully curated products.

In 2021 she decided to move to a new model that still gathers the community of makers but where overhead costs of a brick and mortar store are nonexistent. This allows discounts to be passed along plus it allows the society of makers to converge on local businesses, helping our small mom-and-pop owned venues thrive.

This is how the Secret Stitching Society was created.

A moving, pop-up event where we gather, laugh, learn, create and shop!

Who We Are...

Kim Gum-64_edited.jpg

Kim is the keeper of the keys for the Secret Stitching Society. She dabbles in a bit of everything but her passion lies in needle and thread, she will be leading the needlework group at our gatherings.

Embroidery, pattern design, wool applique, and needle felting usually fill her project bags.  She can also be found in her studio working with a paintbrush in hand or writing.

Her very favorite thing? Hanging out with people who are creative spirits.

She can be found online at www.kimweitkamp.com and on Instagram @kim_broidery

Susan is the queen of fixes. An incredibly patient and helpful instructor, she has been knitting for almost 15 years. Susan enjoys the calming effect that knitting offers and that the end result is something functional as well as beautiful.

Susan will be leading the knitting group at our gatherings, offering guidance and KAL projects (knit-a-long).

Her very favorite thing? A cup of coffee on the deck and her grandchildren nearby.

Laura is the owner of and the main designer for, New Huffman Studios.  Her creativity reaches way beyond needles and yarn.  Laura is an incredible artist and has had her installations showcased in art galleries throughout the United States. Her knit patterns carry hefty backstories that bring texture to her already beautiful designs.

Her very favorite things? Partnering with her husband, Justin, on his art installations and letting her toddler, Frankie, tangle up her yarn as she works on new patterns.

You can find Laura on Instagram @newhuffmanstudios and at lauratabbut.com
